First post

Yay, blog's up! Hello, my name is Karen, and I'm a soon-to-be former fat-ass.  For a few weeks now, I've been making videos and talking about my ongoing journey into a Healthy Lifestyle. I'll get the videos edited and posted soon, but first thing's first - a website/blog!

This is going to be an exciting journey (it already has been), and I'm hoping the blog will be yet another way for me to hold myself accountable for what I'm doing for myself. Also, a place to connect with others in their own journeys!

I'm already a few pounds down, so that takes me out of the needing to lose 100 range to now 90-something more to go!

Little about me: I'm a 32-year old working professional who has struggled with weight my entire adolescent and adult life. I went from being an athletic teenager to leaving for college, where I was already heavy, but by college graduation, I clocked in almost at 300 pounds (at 21 years old). In the past, I have been successful in losing weight, some times losing 25 pounds over a few months (and putting it all back on within 6 months), and then 40 pounds over a few more months (and putting all of that back on within 6 months), all the way to my most successful weight lost of over 100 pounds. That was four years ago, and though I haven't put it all back on, in the first 2 years of gaining, I put at least 60 pounds back on.

Now, I'm about 8 pounds thinner than when I started this in March, and with nutritional moderation and choice of foods (some better than others), my eating has gotten better. No shocker, so has my health. I'm getting more active, doing a lot of work outdoors in my backyard and garden (I have an awesome organic garden started and a kick-ass fire pit, both of which I built with my own hands), am taking less medication and doing some weight training at a gym I belong to.

I'm also fortunate to live in Florida and close by the beach, so I've got the perfect environment to do a LOT of different physical activities, from surfing to hiking, stand-up paddle board to kite boarding, and so, so much more.

The trick is getting off my ass!

Frankly I often get into things with a lot of ambition and the follow-through is what gets me into trouble. Keeping up, moving forward, and making goals and sticking to them. Looking forward to make this a more consistent habit.

Here's to my health, and to all of us healthy people stuck in fat bodies!
